At the Supper Table

December 18, 2007

So we were at the supper table tonight, eating and being beaten into bloody parental pulps with the endless and loud cacophany that accompanies our mealtimes here with 8 children. Suddenly, our 3-year-old decided to speak! This is significant because….well….she rarely speaks. She observes. She ingests. She does not put in her $.02-worth unless she is bothered in a fairly major way. Like when the crayon she is thinking about using next week is selected TODAY by her younger sister. Gasp!

Anyway, various boy-types were talking about boy-type stuff, which included, but was not limited to, destruction, firearms, and body noises. I guess the talk was kinda getting to the 3-year-old, or she was having one of her Toddler Moments, but when the 7-year-old turned to her and began asking her a question, she said very matter-of-factly as she ate her casserole in an extremely lady-like fashion……”No. I don’t want you to talk right now.” AND HE STOPPED!

Boy, that split second of quiet while he digested what had just happened to him was so cool!
