The Zoo

November 7, 2008

We went to the zoo today.  Our first time since we’ve moved here to Arizona.

(Where it’s NOT hot today, if you can believe it!)

I realized upon entering that 2-Year-Old has never been to a zoo before.  Basically, the only way he has seen zebras and giraffes and rhinos and elephants has either been on videos or the little miniature plastic ones that some of my children collect.

So when we were standing 10 feet from three giraffes, 2-Year-Old had the same expression on his face that you or I would have if we were hiking one day and came up a brachiosaurus.

Yep.  Just like that.

It was very, very funny, not to mention immensely entertaining.

3-Year-Old didn’t have anything at all to say until we rounded a corner and she started pointing and squealing and yelling, “MOMMY!  MOMMY!  LOOK!”

And I tried to see what animal she had spotted, craning my neck here and there, thrilled with her glee at discovering new creatures.

And then I saw what she had seen and was so excited about……

The Aquafina machine……..where they sell bottles of water just like Daddy’s.

Forty-eight dollar admission fee.

To see an Aquafina machine.

Hi, been reading your blog for a while. This post reminds me of the time we took our then 4-year-old son to the Washington National Zoo and all he got out of it was how cool it was to splash in all the rain puddles and ride the Metro subway home… It’s funny what kids think is important or cool.
