In June 2010, after volunteering for assignments to Virginia and Alaska, we found out that we had been chosen for the one in Alaska. We were shocked……and very excited! The next few months were spent buying wool socks and snow pants and heavy coats…….in Tucson, Arizona.
Where it’s hot.
We stocked up as best we could to go from one of the hottest places in the U.S. to one of the coldest.
We also began looking for a place to live once we arrived.
We found it.
We are now the proud owners of fifty-one acres of Alaskan field and forest……and a small brown cabin that holds us all somehow.
The term “bursting at the seams” would definitely apply.
Since we are very close to retirement from the Air Force and since Yummy Man (my husband and the father of our 10 children) is in love with Alaska, we may be here for the rest of our lives.
So we’ve decided to use this place that the Lord has given us to begin the journey toward self-sufficiency and, in time, a business that we will all work and run together, as a family.
